Recent advances in artificial intelligence and automation, as well as ever-increasing capacities of smart devices, have created a whole new business ecosystem. Additionally, customers are demanding more innovative, more diverse and greener products. This creates numerous challenges for all actors in the supply chain; yet, they also present a chance to create solutions and practices that improve performance and productivity.

HICL 2017 focuses on research concepts and ideas that enable these tools and ideas to be used in logistics and SCM. For this year’s theme:

Logistics and Supply Chain Management
meet Digitalization

we invite empirical, theoretical, methodological and practical contributions to be submitted via hicl.org/submit. They should adress topics related to one of the following tracks:

  • Innovation and Technology Management
  • Risk and Security Management
  • Sustainability and City Logistics
  • Maritime and Port Logistics
  • Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0

It is our understanding that many of tomorrow’s goals can only be achieved by a constant exchange of ideas within the scientific community. HICL seeks to create an inspiring environment for researchers and professionals to discuss solutions, challenges, and responsibilities companies face in logistics and SCM. We provide a multidisciplinary network and welcome scientific and practical contributions from different disciplines, including Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Law, and Mathematics. All accepted contributions will be published open access in HICL book series.

Ph.D. seminar

An optional Ph.D. seminar will be held on the 11 October 2017 for doctoral candidates in cooperation with the Kühne Logistics University. The aim of the workshop is to promote an understanding of new research opportunities in logistics and supply chain management that arise due to digitization. These opportunities relate, for example, to additive manufacturing, IoT, analytics and new business models driven by digital technology. The proposed methodologies focus on modeling and empirical research. The workshop is conducted under the guidance of experienced researchers. The get-together is also meant as a networking opportunity and a reduced-rate access to the conference for those young researchers that are not yet ready to submit a full paper.

Submission Instructions

Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished research results or best practices that have not been submitted for publication elsewhere. Generally, late submissions and submissions exceeding the length requirement will be rejected automatically without further review. Each submission must provide three to four keywords and each author’s contact information. Submissions will only be accepted through the HICL website (https://hicl.org). Graphics should work in black and white and must be readable when printed on A5 (148 × 210 mm) paper. The official conference language for abstracts, papers, and presentations is English. In keeping with recent HICL conferences, refereeing is double-blind.

The submission of papers is preceded by the submission of abstracts. An abstract should not exceed 250 words. After a short review process, all authors will be notified and will receive a paper submission ID. Paper submissions require the abstract to have been accepted in the aforementioned process. A submission may not exceed 15 pages and 6,000 words (total paper length).

Evaluation

The Conference Committee will evaluate each submission concerning contribution to theory and accessibility to the HICL audience. The abstract should clearly describe the nature and relevance of the problem(s), research methodology, and work-in-progress or final research results. Papers will also be evaluated concerning significance, originality, relevance, novelty, correctness, and clarity.
